Troy, NY – WMHT Public Media, a multichannel public communications organization serving Eastern New York and Western New England, and home of Classical WMHT-FM radio today announced the addition of Charlotte Evelyn Wilson as classical music host and producer.

Wilson has worked as a radio presenter, concert presenter and host for live events in 3 countries - US, UK and New Zealand. Much of her experience was garnered over twenty years in roles with Radio New Zealand (RNZ). Notably, she was instrumental in managing the nationwide campaign to protest the RNZ / government decision to ‘axe’ RNZ Concert, New Zealand’s only classical music station. The effort culminated in a large outdoor concert at Parliament with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and was covered on national radio/TV networks in prime time. The protest achieved an apology from the deputy prime minister and an abrupt reversal of RNZ Concert’s fate.

Most recently Wilson has served in the US as a public radio host for KBAQ/Classical KBACH Phoenix and NPR station WUOT in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“Charlotte is an exceptional choice for Classical WMHT – FM due to her deep love and knowledge of the music and performers,” said Rob Brown, music director and afternoon host. “She is a natural storyteller, with the ability to connect with her listeners.”

Wilson will begin hosting on Classical WMHT-FM on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 4-8pm Monday-Friday and 10am-2pm on Saturdays. Her addition to the station’s hosting roster will add an extra 18 hours of local programming each week.

“Classical WMHT FM is one of the leading classical public radio stations in the country,” said Chris Wienk, vice president, radio. “Our listeners tell us it’s because they love the music programming that highlights all that is going on in our community. With Charlotte hosting an additional 18 hours each week, we are significantly increasing our commitment to community-focused presentation of classical music.”

Wilson attended the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, speaks conversational French and Italian; and has completed coursework in Spanish, German, Czech and te reo Maori.

“I am gratified to be joining the team at Classical WMHT-FM,” said Wilson. “I am a music and art fiend who fell in love with the diversity, opportunity, culture and friendliness of the US, and can’t wait to connect with our audience.”
