Sagamore Lodge: America’s Great Camp is a stunning one hour documentary filmed in New York’s Adirondack Park and Yellowstone National Park. The film tells the story of the development of William West Durant’s rustic Adirondack architecture beginning with Camps Pine Knot and Uncas and culminating with Durant’s greatest achievement, Sagamore Lodge. Built as an exclusive gilded age hunting retreat for large parties, Sagamore Lodge was for fifty years the property of the Vanderbilt family who made the camp their private playground. Exclusive looks at the Vanderbilt family guest books with signatures and photographs of Hollywood stars and statesmen alike will transport viewers to an era of elegant Adirondack luxury. The film then travels to Yellowstone National Park where viewers will see how Durant’s Adirondack rustic style links to National Park architecture typified by the Old Faithful Inn. It then comes full circle back to Sagamore Lodge, now a National Historic Landmark and open to the public with an education mission to preserve the lodge and its continuing history as a wilderness retreat.
