This inspiring video from Schenectady County Community College's Liberty Partnerships Program Summer Youth Enrichment Program captures moments from the Service Learning project at Vale Cemetery's African American Burial Ground where students cleaned the formerly "old slave plot" and planted rose bushes. Also featured is a workshop on poetry and spoken word hosted by English Professor Jeff Nessler at the College of Saint Rose. Other people in the film are Dr. Lisa Carr, professor at Sage College and Guidance counselor at Bethlehem High School and Mr. Walter Simpkins, founder of Community Fathers.
During the summer program students went on several college visits, attended the Harlem Book Fair, and participated in a week long Tech Valley Camp. Additionally, students heard from a number of presenters on topics ranging from the culture of Hip Hop to leadership development and identity formation.
