Swim for the River Hudson River Towns Tour
Airing Thursday, December 14th at 9:00 p.m. and
Sunday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m.
Riverkeeper and Moira Productions has announce the completion of an important new documentary
film SWIM FOR THE RIVER about the Hudson River and people working to
protect it and its watershed. Prior to the film’s official release on
public television, Riverkeeper has teamed up with the film’s producer
to organize screenings of the documentary in Hudson River towns and
cities in October and November 2006. This tour, which includes
screenings, special presentations, and audience discussions, as an
opportunity to support groups along the river that are dedicated to
helping protect the environment. WMHT is proud to be sponsoring community screenings of this film.
Screenings will be held in community halls, libraries, theatres, and college and school auditoriums. Director Tom Weidlinger,
will talk with audiences about what he’s learned about the river and
the challenges that face it, during the two years that he’s spent on
this project. At larger events and venues, Riverkeeper has agreed to
provide speakers to address regional environmental issues and to talk
about its current role on the Hudson.
Dive Deeper
The Swim for the River Study Guide contains articles
on the history and science of environmental issues pertainig to the Hudson,
offers a unique opportunity for educators and students of all ages to dig deeper
into issues touched on in the film. It also provides tools to facilitate the use
of the film in classroom settings.
