Wills and Bequests: Remember WMHT in Your Will

Annual support from loyal members keeps WMHT on the air from day to day and year to year. A bequest, which is a gift through your will or living trust, goes an important step further. Your legacy gift will be used to advance and preserve forever the promise of public broadcasting in our community, assuring WMHT's long-term financial security, so that our programs and services will be enjoyed by generations to come.

In your will, you have choices as to how you name WMHT as a beneficiary. You can make a gift of a certain dollar amount, a specific property, a percentage of your estate or what is left after your loved ones have been taken care of. If you have chosen a revocable living trust to pass your property on to loved ones, a charitable gift through your trust may also reduce your estate taxes and can be delayed until all family members are provided for.

Whichever you select, it is important that your attorney know that bequests should be made to:

WMHT Educational Telecommunications
4 Global View
Troy, NY 12180

Our federal tax identification number is 14-1400177.

We strongly recommend that you consult an attorney in the preparation of your will and to supervise its execution so as to comply with state requirements.

Your Special Wishes: Other Designations

While an unrestricted gift to WMHT provides the most flexibility in directing your gift to where it is most needed, we understand that you may want your gift to be used in a specific way.

If you do decide to restrict your bequest, we ask that you include the following language in your will:

"If at any time, in the judgment of the Board of Trustees of WMHT Educational Telecommunications, it is no longer practicable to use the income or principal of this bequest for the purpose stated herein, I authorize them to use the income or principal for any purpose they deem to be consistent with such purpose."

Please Let Us Know ...

If you're planning to make WMHT one of the beneficiaries in your will or living trust, we encourage you to tell us now. WMHT wants to honor your wishes. We can work with you and your advisors to make sure your bequest is planned and administered properly. It also gives us the opportunity to thank you and to welcome you as a member of the Legacy Society. Requests for anonymity are respected.
WMHT's Planned Giving staff will help you explore the options so that you can decide what's best for your particular financial objectives. For more information, please contact Scott Sauer, Vice President for Development, at (518) 880-3482.

Richard Stein

Richard Stein on his legacy to public broadcasting:

"Classical music and public television have been an integral part of my life. I have gotten so much from WMHT-TV and WMHT-FM that I wanted to give something back to the station. I have included WMHT in my will because the station is utterly unique, its services are unduplicated and I want to ensure it is here for others to enjoy in the future."
